The last few years I have been occupied with making the equipment used for making daguerreotypes, but recently returned to my roots in the genre with this case. Black Moroccan goatskin with brass inset book clasps. In the past I’ve made these book clasps high polish brass and coloured gold to go with maroon Moroccan cases, but with this black one I worked out a technique to give a more muted colour to the brass. The case was rounded on both sides, rather than being vaulted on the base. I employed less tooling to give a more contemporary look as the case is for a 4×5″ Daguerreotype by artist Adam Fuss. Similarly the passe partout was plain without decorative lines.
