Xmas plates

December down under in New Zealand means lots of sun, more than I estimated for the exposure of these two plates but they still make fine records of the season, a patient mother and mother in law. Ninth plate daguerreotypes in passe partout.

Landscape lenses

Up until now I have only used petzval portrait lenses for my daguerreotypy but all that is about to change with my two new landscape lenses. These types of lenses have a cemented crown and flint glass (achromatic) meniscus and while the smaller apertures and slower speed will lengthen exposures, they will allow me greater flexibility with depth of field.
The lenses are smaller than the petzvals for these cameras so I had an engineer make adaptor rings, in brass to maintain the aesthetic of the cameras.

Under glass and in the store

The latest plate in a reverse painted passe partout and now listed in the online store

Three trees

This scene has had three attempts, back in July there was Winter Chill, yesterday it was nearly there but today one of my best plates yet emerged from the mercury pot. Next step is to create a sublime enclosure for it then it will be posted in the online store.

Musee acquisition

All six images I sent to the international contemporary daguerreotypes exhibit in Bry-sur-Marne this year have been bought by the Bry Museum.
It is very nice and a great honour to have the first institutional purchase of my images going to Daguerre’s town where they are establishing a Museum to honour the photographic pioneer.

More back catalogue

A becquerel plate from 2007 that I decided to rehouse in a passe partout.  I prefer this presentation method over brass mats as it allows for selective cropping and orientation of the image, whereas brass mats that are the same size as the plate just reflect the in camera placement of the image on the plate.  Of course I still prefer these to go into a case but thats just my personal preference. This one has a wall hanging feature flush mounted on the back. Available in my online store.
