Cases cases are made according to the methods of E Anthony, the Daguerreian period casemaker, which he describes in detail in his catalogue of 1854.

It is a wooden box, covered in Morrocan goatskin leather on the covers and skiver on the rails (sides). These are made to house daguerreotype formats (when the plate has a brass mat over it) or to the passe partout size that the plate is mounted in.
