CasedImage.com cases are made according to the exacting methods of a Daguerreian period casemaker, E Anthony. In his catalog of 1854, he describes in detail a wooden construction designed to give a stable, durable structure to protect the delicate images.

These cases are made both to standard formats and custom sizes and styles. To produce a case I require accurate measurements, not physical possession of the image.

Passe Partout

Passe Partout have the design painted on the underside of the cover glass. Accent lines adjacent to the mat window can be painted in gold pigment, gold leaf or black. These can be made to replace broken vintage ones accurately, or to a design specified by a client to suit a particular Daguerreotype. Also available are traditionally styled slipcase boxes to protect the glass surface.

To meet client design needs, only a flatbed scan of a broken cover glass or accurate measurements of the design are needed to produce the Passe Partout. For information on prices and ordering click here.

These mats are made of solid brass, have a beveled and burnished edge, and are colored gold and varnished in the finishing.
Examples here show the variation possible in mat production, either for standard formats or custom sizes. For availability of stock in format sizes please contact CasedImage.com; for information on prices and ordering click here.

Custom projects can offer exclusive and premier presentations for a valued collection. An example of this is Casedimage.com's work in presenting the Daguerreotypes of Southworth and Hawes for the George Eastman House / International Center of Photography exhibit "Young America" - click here for more information on the exhibit.
