From Japan, images of the ambrotype cases and mats I made awhile back for a Photo/paper conservator there. They now protect copy ambrotypes shown here with the original image which is of Yukichi Fukuzawa who adorns the country’s banknotes.

Here’s some more maroon cases ( I do cases in 4 colours but this is the most poplar) that are custom cases as they are made for Ambrotypes rather than Daguerreotypes. Because of the extra depth to the plate package with the image being on glass the case is also deeper. Otherwise they look like [...]
